Splash Day

Our preschool department at First Irving hosts fun events throughout the summer for the little kids. Joshua was able to participate in Splash Day, which was last Wednesday. Since I was working, his teachers took him out there, and I was able to join him for a while. They had lots of kiddie pools filled with water, a slip 'n slide, bubbles everywhere, and a huge water slide (huge is relative). Joshua absolutely loved the water spraying in his face as he went down the slide and then sitting at the bottom of the slide in a pool of water. It was so fun to watch him play around the other kids...he still is not too intrigued by other kids his age.

I don't know if I have mentioned this before, but Joshua is a tough boy. There were several (probably 5 or 6) times that he slipped on the wet tarp or on spilled bubbles and landed flat on his back. A few times I rushed to him to make sure he was okay, but he never whimpered. Here are a few pictures from that fun day...my friends Janelle and Star had their cameras there that day and shared the pictures with me.

Joshua and Ella playing in the pool...

Joshua was obsessed with this bubble blower. He had it in his mouth almost the entire morning. Luckily, I don't think there were any bubbles in there.
Here is my big boy going down the slide. I would set him halfway up the slide and he would fly down. He probably would have been brave enough to go from the top, but I wasn't!

Thirteen Weeks and Counting!

We went to the doctor Tuesday afternoon for the 12 week appointment and the doctor said that everything looked good. He said the baby is growing on schedule and had a healthy heartbeat.

While we were looking at the sonogram the baby was moving constantly. It looked like he/she might have had the hiccups because the body was jerking a lot...then an arm would fly up and back down...and then the baby did a complete 360 degree roll...from back to front and front to back. It was pretty wild to see that. So I'm thinking that we may have a very active baby on our hands in six months...and I might be feeling lots of movement in a few weeks!

The next appointment will be in six weeks at the end of August. We are waiting six weeks instead of four, so we will hopefully be able to find out the sex of the baby!

Below is the sonogram picture. It is amazing how much the baby has grown in four weeks. The baby is on its back and the head is to the left (profile shot). You can't see a whole lot in the picture, but you should be able to make out the head.

New in Joshua's World

Once again I find myself having not posted in a long time...so here is a quick recap of the last couple of weeks.

Fourth of July was a blast and we were determined to have some patriotic fun as a family. We went to the Arlington parade Wednesday morning and met Todd & Kristin there. They were gracious to allow us to encroach upon their spot that Todd claimed at 5 am that morning. We watched the parade from the view of Todd's pickup truck bed. It was perfect and a lot of fun! Joshua had so much fun watching the floats, cars, bands, cheerleaders, and many Elvis' riding on small motorcycles.

That afternoon we went swimming as a family and Joshua actually enjoyed his float. Up until this point, I could not get him to sit in it longer than a second. All it took was his dad playing games with him, and he stayed in it for about an hour.

That evening we joined up with some friends for a barbecue. It was fun hanging out, however our attempt at seeing fireworks was foiled by some tall buildings! It didn't matter much, because Joshua was asleep the entire time so we had some good snuggling time.

Two weeks ago we went to Vertical Camp in Red River, NM! It was a blast hanging out with the middle school and high school students from our church and 3 other churches that all came together for youth camp. Diane and Oksana went with us to help take care of Joshua so I could spend some time with the students. It worked out great, and Joshua had some good Grannie time.

It was a very long drive to Red River and this was Joshua and Oksana's favorite sleeping position.

Our beautiful view for the week...

This picture is of Joshua and Karoline, his girlfriend for the week, even though she is 8 months younger than him. There were five babies at camp, all between the ages of 6 months and 2 1/2 years old. It was one big playdate when they all got together!

The Saturday we got back from camp was not spent resting, but spent having fun with our family and the Murrells. Joshua went to/slept through Rattatouie, his first movie to go to since he was a week old. We went out for lunch, took him to a fun sprinkler park, and got ice cream. It was a very fun day, and a good way to get acclamated back to Texas weather (with the sprinklers and ice cream).

Last Week's Happenings

I realized that I haven't posted in a while and grandparents and aunts/uncle are probably ready for an update. Joshua had a great week last week with Daddy back in town. We had a lot of fun together over the weekend...relaxing a little and having fun with Apartment Life stuff. I will let the pictures tell the stories.

These pics didn't turn out too great, but this was from our visit with Christie and Baby Ellie. She is such a cutie pie!

A sign of things to come..."No, Joshua, don't touch the baby's face."

Joshua enjoys Kid's Care at church so much! Next to him in this picture is his friend Toby. Toby happened to bring his swim goggles that day and when the teacher brought out the bubble machine he insisted on wearing them! One other cute story about Toby. His mom, also a Melissa that works in the office, is also pregnant and due around the same time we are. She asked Toby if he wanted a baby brother or baby sister, and he said that he wants a "baby Joshua". What good friends! And Joshua loves playing with bigger kids when he gets the chance.

Joshua and his buddy Ella made these flags in Kid's Care last week. Their teachers decided that they need a flag to wave on July 4th.

When I brought Joshua back to my office after Kid's Care, he made a bee-line to my boss' office.
Caught in the act!

On Thursday night we had a playdate at Janelle's house. She filled up their cute frog pool for some swimming fun, but Joshua did not want to have anything to do with it. I put him in it several times and he promptly crawled out. Jackson and Ava were also there, but I did not get a picture of them all together.

This is probably the one picture on my entire blog that does not have Joshua in it, but this was too cute not to include. Jackson took all of Ella's stuffed animals off of her bench and laid down in the middle of them. He was just soaking up their furry-ness!
